Welcome to Burham Parish Council
Meet our village
Burham is a village and civil parish in the Tonbridge and Malling Borough, on the southern side of the North Downs in the county of Kent (known as the Garden of England) in England. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 1,251, decreasing to 1,195 in 2011.
It is close to 3 other small villages; Aylesford, Eccles and Wouldham. Burham is close to the Medway towns, in a designated Green Belt area known as the Medway Gap. It lies along Pilgrims Way (the ancient route along the Downs linking the cathedral cities of Winchester and Canterbury), approximately half way between Rochester, 8km/5miles to the North and Maidstone, 8km/5miles to the South. Canterbury is 48km/29miles East and London 59km/35miles to the West
We would like to welcome you warmly to our village and hope that you will quickly feel part of our village community.
This website intends to give you information about the various facilities, clubs, organisations, and businesses offering local services. The original village was sites around Old St Mary’s Church close to the river crossing Snodland. The Churches Conservation Trust (formerly known as the Redundant Churches Trust) now maintains this Church.
With the development of the chalk pits, which supplied the raw materials for the extensive cement works (now long since closed), the present village was developed in the mid nineteenth century. Small modern housing developments have taken place in the last fifty years. There is easy to the North Downs by many bridle ways and footpaths. The Kent Wildlife Trust is doing much work to enhance the flora and fauna.
Despite its rural Burham has excellent road and rail links to the continent and S E England. If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of the Parish Council.
